A recent study reveals that Black women are six times more likely to be victims of homicide compared to white women. This disparity has increased by 73% in the past six years and is attributed to "structural social inequities." Across 30 states, over 31,600 homicides were analyzed, showing that Black women face a significantly higher risk of being killed in every state examined. The Midwest has the highest disparity, with Black women facing seven times the risk of being killed than white women in just one year. Shocking news from Columbus and Milwaukee only further highlight this reality, with two recent stories of Black women tragically losing their lives - 61-year-old Lo-Letha Hall and 19-year-old Sade Robinson. It begs the question: how many of these killers are white men? As we grapple with these statistics, it is crucial that we demand justice and fight for change to ensure that Black women no longer live in fear of becoming another tragic statistic.
